I feel like this blog has become "Blog-on-demand"... I only add new entries when someone tags or reminds me.. "Miss Chew, you haven't been blogging...!" So yes, Justin. This post is entered because of your tag!
Not that I've lost my love for writing. I still do, and perhaps, I wished I could do it more often since I'm better at expressing myself through writing. But work mostly robs away the time I'd love to have used for blogging.
I received a card in my pigeon hole today. It wasn't one of those fancy hallmark ones you'd find, but a simple hand-made one by one of my students. It was a pleasant surprise since there wasn't any occasion that warranted a card. It certainly brightened up my day and made the soon-to-be three years of teaching more fulfilling. To you who dropped off the card - thanks for taking time to make it. I was touched by what you wrote... and I've proudly pinned it up on the wall in front of my desk. :)
The guys in 3 Hope still continue to amaze me with their love for music. Maybe, in a way, I can identify with them since I do love music myself. And hating formal lessons, I picked up playing instruments mostly by hearing and figuring out chords. I still do wish I could play the piano one day.. that takes more practice. But I'd always love the drums. When I was in the band in secondary school, I'd wanted to join the percussion section, but alas, it was filled up. I ended up playing the cornet instead. But ever so secretly, I'd learn the drum beats just by listening... I still can't forget the dumbfounded look on my band mates faces when I taught them the drum beats and there they were trying to figure out the beats on the scores! Favourite percussion instrument - the timpani. What can I say?
One year has passed since I took over as form teacher of Sec 2 Integrity, and I must say, they have changed. They have matured.. well, some of them.. and they have grown.. err.. well, some still have lots of room for growth (literally!). *winks*. As the end of the year comes to a close, I can say that I am proud of them, and their achievements. Looking through the results mark sheet this afternoon, I must say there are a whole bunch of them that are really promising, and I'm sure if they continue their efforts, they'll definitely do well in Sec 3 and 4.
My wish for them as I leave them is that the continue their efforts, and push themselves to the limits. I hope they recognise that it is for themselves they are working hard for, and it will definitely make me proud to see them all successful in their own little way one day after leaving school.
So my dear class, as you move on, remember never to give up regardless the challanges and obstacles, because you have in you the qualities to make you one of the best. You just have to believe in yourself!
I leave you with one of my favourite matras that continually motivate me...
